Historical Background

Kerala PSC Employees Union
(A brief history of its formation)

Inspired by a group of people having great determination, dedication and mind to sacrifice, the KPSC Employees Union was formed in 1973. It had a humble beginning. Yet, there had been a clear objective behind it. The vision they had was the creation of a common platform of working class in this august institution without any barriers of category or grade. The mission they undertook had the dream of the working class, the have-nots and deprived class. The flag they held had the colour of their blood. After 38 years of its origin, the foundation they laid is strong enough for a fortress and the flags held by few hands are transferred to the hands of hundreds.

HISTORICAL BACKGROUND:
The strike of Government Employees in 1973.

The formation of this fighting organisation has a historical background also. It was the 54 days mighty struggle undertaken by the state Government Employees and Teachers from 10th January 1973 to 4th March 1973 during the period of Achutha Menon Government that resulted the formation of Kerala PSC Employees Union. Though persons recruited to the offices of the Secretariat, Kerala Public Service Commission and Universities were supposed to have acquired more qualification than others in the civil service they were not having a mindset to participate in the strike. There had been a good number of employees in these institutions who had great sympathy to their striking comrades outside their campus. Such a sympathy and anger led them to form their own organisation in these departments. Kerala PSC Employees Union has been formed in this background and now grown in to mighty as well as ‘The majority Organisation’ in our institution.
